Research Support
Research with visual media challenges conventional models for discovery, applications, and sharing at every level of knowledge production, from entry level courses to advanced, collaborative research. Scholarly publishing also offers particular challenges to the researcher in light of the diverse and often conflicting fair use and digital rights management requirements, guidelines, and laws that apply to different media types. Archiving of original digital content also challenges the fixed media paradigms of conventional library practice, requiring new forms of collaboration between librarians, information technology specialists, and subject area specialists. VSI will help scholars consider these questions both through foundational digital delivery projects managed directly by VSI personnel, and through Faculty Centered grants and project support.
