Developing and supporting Duke’s talented and accomplished faculty is at the heart of the Visual Studies Initiative. In addition to providing funding for individual faculty research ideas (link to research grants page), VSI will support a year-round scholarly program following a well-tested, incremental implementation strategy from workshops and colloquia to symposia and international conferences (link to workshop page).
In addition, the VSI enables Duke to augment current faculty expertise by pursuing strategic recruitment (link to Faculty Recruitment page) opportunities across the entire University. A cluster-hiring strategy provides the opportunity for a synergistic group of colleagues to be in close contact and conversation, sharing ideas, research, and teaching.
