Crossing the Nave of the St. Odulphusherk Assendelft, by Pieter Saendredam
The initial motivation of this project involved examining Pieter Saenredam’s painting Crossing the Nave of the St. Odulphusherk Assendelft with an Orthopedist. Pieter Saendredam was known to have a hunched back, and would now be diagnosed with some form of kyphosis. Is the pose of the small boy in two of Saendredam’s paintings consistent for someone with kyphosis? Could the small boy be a self portrait? The findings from this research will be reported through an animation laying out the historical, cultural, and medical arguments that the boy in two paintings is Pieter Saenredam himself.
